Do you love nature……. want to support the life of our precious flora and fauna, and contribute positively to the health of our planet…..?

If your answer is yes, you will probably know about the incredible ecological value of trees in the landscape. More trees……… more diversity……….more health……….more resilience………more happiness……….

National Tree Day is coming up on Sunday 28th July and offers wonderful opportunities to take positive action for nature in your local community or in your own home. National Tree Day is run by Planet Ark, a non-for-profit, environmental behaviour change organisation. Planet Ark aims to help individuals, business and governments reduce their impact on the environment in three key ways by promoting,

  • Sustainable resource use
  • Low carbon lifestyles
  • Connecting people with nature

National Tree Day began in 1966 and has occurred annually since. Planet Ark calculates that since beginning, some 27 million trees (yes, that was 27 million) have been planted across the nation as a result of the day.

So many individuals creating such a wave of positive change across time.

If you are inspired and interested to learn more, do visit the National Tree Day website. There is a search engine to help you locate sites of community plantings in your local area, and information about steps you can take in your own back (or front) yard to help green-it further, and create wildlife habitat.

There are two allied days, Schools Tree Day on Friday 26th July and Tropical Tree Day on Sunday 1st December. These aim to encourage children and young people to engage with nature, and to increase the planting of trees in northern parts of Australia during the wet-season.

People and trees. A formidable partnership. Consider getting involved……………………….
