Therapeutic Horticulture

What is Therapeutic Horticulture or Gardening?
Therapeutic Horticulture or Gardening is a process in which gardening and horticultural activities are used to promote the health and wellbeing of people of all backgrounds and abilities. At MindEcology we also facilitate opportunities for people to contribute to the health of their local flora, fauna and natural ecologies, through community gardening and environmental restoration projects. This completes the ‘circle’ of human and environmental interdependence, promoting mutual health and wellbeing.
Therapeutic Horticulture is a growing, evidence-based, internationally-recognised discipline. It is practiced in settings such as schools, healthcare, disability and aged-care settings, and in private therapeutic settings such as MindEcology.
Some of the benefits of Therapeutic Horticulture include stress reduction, improved recovery from illness, improved mindful attention, improved self-esteem and self-confidence, and strengthened social connectedness. For more information visit Therapeutic Horticulture Australia.
